What is AFRISOS
The African School of Storytelling (AFRISOS) is a non-governmental organization founded in 2020 and based in Arusha, Tanzania. We are committed to preserving Africa's rich natural and cultural heritage through community-driven storytelling.
We believe that authentic, local narratives are essential for capturing the true essence of Africa’s diverse nature and culture.
At AFRISOS, we form strong relationships with indigenous communities to access deeply rooted stories and traditions. We do not just work with locals to make sure their stories are accurately portrayed; we also give them the tools and training they need to make films, enabling them to tell and share their own stories. This is just one aspect of our creative process.
This hands-on support helps preserve their cultural heritage while providing a greater appreciation for their unique perspectives and traditions.
Our intensive workshops are designed to provide emerging filmmakers with practical skills across all stages of filmmaking, from concept development to post-production.
Participants benefit from the guidance of experienced mentors and engage in projects that highlight the significance of cultural and environmental storytelling.
We invite you to be part of our journey. Whether you're a filmmaker, a community member, or a supporter of cultural preservation, there are many ways to engage with AFRISOS.
Join us in our mission to document, preserve, and celebrate Africa’s rich heritage.
