Filmmaking workshop
Are you passionate about telling uniquely African stories?
Send us your portfolio today and stand a chance to participate in the upcoming workshop.
Together with the Great Spine of Africa, we are supporting and investing in young African filmmakers to tell stories of nature and the communities who live alongside wild rivers, Their perspectives are not only deeply relevant and required in order to connect to local audiences but also long overdue in a landscape historically reliant on international crews.
Stories sit at the foundation of all cultures. As we explore and survey thousands of kilometers of African rivers, we aim to understand their intricacies through both science and culture.
Filmmakers do not need to be concerned about their ability to attend the 10-day workshop because all costs are covered.
Under the guidance of our renowned mentors, participants receive intensive instruction on various skills such as story structure, equipment maintenance, subject interviewing, and final product editing. All of this is taught while simulating the trials and tribulations of an authentic expedition.
Expedition workshop at the Okavango Delta in Botswana
Our expedition workshops at Okavango have successfully identified and nurtured a cohort of aspiring filmmakers, equipping them with storytelling skills and establishing a relationship with local communities to preserve cultural heritage, raise environmental awareness, and establish a strong foundation for future initiatives in the African filmmaking ecosystem.
The participants are not only guided in the proper filmmaking techniques but also connected to paid opportunities so as to hone their skills.
