Mentorship Dates:
11th November - 25th November 2022Receiving Applications: 10th October - 30th October 2022
Spend 2 weeks making a documentary in the wild and learning about the Hadzabe hunter gatherer and Datoga pastoralist cultures. Create documentary stories about their connection to nature.
Eligibility:
African citizen (from any of the 54 African countries) with a valid passport.
Age 18+.
Owns a DSLR or mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses.
Owns a laptop or smartphone with good specifications to support Adobe Suite.
Able to commit and travel 2 weeks to learn how to be a compelling storyteller and learn new techniques.
Learning Outcomes:
✓ Cultural Literacy of the Hadzabe, Datoga and Maasai people in Tanzania.
✓ Ethics of Ethnographic and Anthropological Storytelling.
✓ Refining human empathy and Interview skills to share authentic, uncontrived stories.
✓ Introductory training on the full process of creating a short documentary film - from pre-production, production, to post production.
✓ Technical skills on operating cameras and sound equipment.
✓ Creative skills on Cinematography and editing on Adobe Premiere Pro.

Jigar Ganatra
Jigar is an award winning Nature & Culture filmaker from Tanzania with 7 years of experinece making documentaries. He has been working with the Hadzabe tribe for the last 3 years and is currently learning to speak Hadzane.

Frank is a self-taught documentary filmmaker from Tanzania with 7 years of experience making conservation films for clients like BBC Storyworks, WildAid, UNDP, and many others. He has worked with various tribes and communties around Africa.
