
Community Film/Photo Storyteller Mentor
(Full-Time)
This Filmmaking Mentor will specialize in documentary storytelling, production and editing to co-facilitate our community based “culture connected to nature” mentoring programs to empower village people to amplify the stories they have to share that will help in preserving their natural and cultural heritage..
Filmmaking Mentors are responsible for guiding community participants through the making of their first film and then helping the student raise the production value of that film to AFRISOS World Class Standards. The co-instructor will guide students through the preproduction, shooting, and post production process as outlined in our AFRISOS curriculum. The Filmmaking Mentor is also responsible for writing lesson plans. This role works closely with other AFRISOS Inside Mentors as well as, Outside Mentors and the AFRISOS Director.
Responsibilities
Lesson Plan Development
Responsible for developing engaging and informative sequential sessions for a specific filmmaking craft
Create lessons which are customized to student’s strengths and ideas to improve their experiences and educational outcomes
Teaching and Mentoring
Be available to run in-person workshops in Tanzania and Kenya
Co-teach an effective, fun and engaging in person 5 day workshop
Provide overall industry and career advice in a positive atmosphere
Collaboration with other team members to ensure strong community impact.
Foster community with Village Members, Students, and Other Mentors
Qualifications
Experienced in multiple editing software: Adobe Creative Cloud, Premier Pro and/or Davinci Resolve Editing Software.
Able to work within graphic presentation software such as Canva
Experience in all Aspects of filmmaking from videography, scriptwriting, storytelling, editing, color correction, sound engineering and production process workflow.
Professional filmmaker in the Wildlife and/or Cultural field with a resume that reflects a mature body of work with a distinctive voice.
Some experience with teaching village community members 16 yrs to 35 yrs old
Knowledge of and ability to apply positive youth development principles when working with young people
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A high degree of self-awareness, strong personal boundaries and the ability to ask for help
Effective organizational and time-management skills
Demonstrated experience in a team-based work
Strong Commitment to AFRISOS Vision and Mission
Able to effectively communicate with all educational levels of people from CEOs, Government officials to individuals with no education.
Is fluent in Reading, Writing and Speaking in Swahili and English.
Has good Character, works well with others, and is a team participant.
